Photography is a form of artistic media that encompasses multiple branches, including documentary and news approaches. This study explores the postmodern perspective on this type of photography and reflects Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizomatic viewpoint in Iran’s news photographs. From an epistemological perspective, it examines the political and social conditions depicted in the news photos of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, presenting a new perspective that rejects the previously dominant interpretations. This research seeks to articulate the prevailing viewpoint on Iran and illustrates the path for liberating the people from this dominance through photography. The significance of Deleuze and Guattari lies in their portrayal of art as a means for expressing individual and collective emotions of the era, and for channeling the suppressed desires of individuals as a pathway for individual creativity and collective eruption. The news photographs of the Iranian Revolution demonstrate a diverse yet heterogeneous approach of that period, which led to the surge of public desires. Additionally, many news photographers of Iran in the 1970s served as catalysts for igniting the people's internal desire to change the dominant societal norms of that time. Therefore, in this study, after presenting Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizomatic perspective and introducing the dominant discourse during the specified years, the news photographs of the Islamic Revolution are examined in a novel manner.
