Social health of youth and its relationship with family functioning

Abstract

According to the announcement of the World Health Organization, not only physical and mental health is sufficient, but also social health is necessary to reach full health. A socially healthy person is a person who performs well in the society and considers the society as a space for growth and prosperity and considers himself to belong to the society and contribute to its progress. Part of the human capital of any society is health, and social health seeks a healthy society. Iranian society is a young society and paying attention to their social health is very important. Based on this, the aim of the research is whether family functioning has an effect on the social health of young people. In terms of data collection, the research method is non-experimental or descriptive-correlation type, and in terms of implementation, it is a context finding or survey type, and the data collection tool is a questionnaire. The statistical population of the research includes young people aged 18-29 in Tabriz city in 2023 and the sample size is 384 people. The average performance status of the family is 164.89, which indicates a higher than average performance. Also, the average social health of young people is equal to 66.85, which indicates an above average social health. The correlation between family functioning and social health among young people is equal to ./43 and family functioning explains only %18.5 of the variance of youth social health. In general, the social health of young people is better along with the healthier performance of families in solving problems, playing roles and responding and emotional participation. The results of this research can be very useful and effective for families and social policy makers. Future researchers are suggested to conduct a study using interviews and qualitative research methods.
