Investigating the relationships and effects of the social change approach on the economic recession of handicrafts (Study case: handicrafts of Shiraz city)

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationships and effects of the social change approach on the economic stagnation of handicrafts in the city of Shiraz.

Design/methodology/approach – The current research is applied according to its purpose, and according to the method of data collection, it is considered a descriptive-survey type of research. The statistical population includes all artists and artisans in the field of handicrafts in Shiraz city. The participants were 384 artists and artisans in the field of handicrafts in Shiraz city (155 men, 209 women) who were selected using Cochran's formula and available sampling method. All of them completed the scales of cultural changes, industrial production increases, macroeconomic changes, human resource shortages, managerial factors, changes in marketing practices, and economic recession. Also, the method of structural equations using SmartPLS and SPSS software was used to analyze the data.

Findings- The findings showed that cultural changes due to marketing factors have a significant effect on the economic stagnation of handicrafts. Management factors have a significant effect on the economic recession of handicrafts due to marketing factors. In addition, macroeconomic changes due to marketing factors have a significant effect on the economic stagnation of handicrafts. Changes in human resources due to marketing factors have a significant effect on the economic recession of handicrafts. Also, cultural changes due to the increase in industrial production have a significant effect on the economic stagnation of handicrafts. Management factors have a significant effect on the economic stagnation of handicrafts due to the increase in industrial production. Macroeconomic changes due to the increase in industrial production have a significant effect on the economic stagnation of handicrafts. Finally, the changes in human resources due to the increase in industrial production do not have a significant effect on the economic recession of handicrafts.

Conclusion/Discussion- Cultural changes, macroeconomic changes and management factors through marketing factors and increase in industrial production can affect the economic stagnation of handicrafts in Shiraz city.
