Abstract

During the Iran-Iraq war, which lasted from 1980 to 1988, both sides employed various military tactics that continuously influenced field developments. One of Iran’s primary tactics in this war was the use of irregular warfare and surprise attacks. Utilizing this tactic, Iran managed to disrupt the Iraqi regular warfare pattern, instilling concern and fear among Iraqi forces, thus turning this method to its advantage. Conversely, Iraq employed various tactics to counter Iranian forces, including front-line warfare tactics and extensive aerial attacks. Operation Valfajr 8, as one of the significant operations in the Iran-Iraq war, encompassed extensive political dimensions. This operation, executed in February 1986, had numerous political aspects in addition to military objectives, leading to diverse impacts. One of the crucial political dimensions of this operation was demonstrating military power and emphasizing Iran’s defensive capabilities, sending a decisive message to both enemies and allies. Additionally, with the victory in this operation, Iran demonstrated its control over the Persian Gulf waters and its seriousness regarding international threats. Operation Valfajr 8 bolstered public confidence in the government and the regime internally. This victory increased the people's sense of security and trust in the government, showing that military power could counter any threat. Moreover, this victory had positive effects on Iran's international relations, demonstrating that the Islamic Republic of Iran played an active and effective role on the international stage.
